Start with one puzzle per page

The simplest way to get bigger print is to put a single puzzle on each sheet. The grid fills most of the page, and the digits and cells grow with it. The large print page on this site is built for this, and it works for anyone who prefers bigger numbers.

Print at the right scale

Large print only helps if the printer does not shrink it. In the print dialog, choose Letter for US paper or A4 elsewhere, and set the scale to 100 percent. Avoid options such as shrink to fit or fit to page, which can reduce the grid slightly.

  • Match the paper size to the paper in your tray.
  • Choose actual size or 100 percent.
  • Use black ink rather than a draft or grayscale-saving mode if the digits look faint.

Choose your tools

A soft pencil, such as a 2B, is easier on the hand than a hard one and erases cleanly. Pair it with a good eraser and keep a sharpener nearby. Pencil marks need space, so a bigger grid also leaves room for neat candidates. A mechanical pencil with thicker lead is a good option too.

Set up the space

Good lighting makes a bigger difference than many people expect. Sit near a window or put a lamp beside you so the light falls on the page without casting a shadow from your hand. A clipboard or a firm board keeps the sheet flat and lets you tilt it to a comfortable angle, which is handy in a chair or on the couch.

Make it a routine

Many people enjoy a daily puzzle as a relaxing routine, perhaps with morning coffee or in the evening. Print a few at once so the next one is ready. Start with easy or medium to build confidence, and go up a level when you want more of a challenge.

You can also play any puzzle on screen if you prefer, with pencil marks, a check button and hints.
