Playing 16x16 sudoku
A 16x16 puzzle has sixteen rows, sixteen columns and sixteen boxes of four by four, and each must contain the numbers 1 to 16 once. These puzzles start with about half the squares filled, which keeps them long but steady rather than fiendish.
- Print one per page so two-digit numbers stay readable.
- Work one box at a time and pencil in candidates.
- Allow an hour or more for a full grid.
Common questions
Why numbers 1 to 16 instead of letters?
Numbers are easier to check at a glance for most players. Each square holds a number from 1 to 16.
How long does a 16x16 puzzle take?
Much longer than a 9x9. Plan on a long session, or play part of it on screen and finish on paper.
